Blaize Clement won fans all over the world with the charm and wit of her pet-sitting mysteries. Now, with the help of her son, author John Clement, Blaize's beloved heroine Dixie Hemingway is back for yet another thrilling adventure in this critically-acclaimed series.
Dixie has built a nice, quiet life for herself in the sleepy town of Siesta Key, a sandy resort island off the coast of Florida. In fact, her pet-sitting business is going so well she's even taken on part-time help: Kenny, a handsome young surfer who lives alone in a rickety old houseboat. But things get a little messy when, on an early morning walk in the park with a client's schnauzer, Dixie makes a shocking discovery. Hidden among the leafy brambles is a homeless girl, alone and afraid, cradling a newborn baby in her arms.
Dixie takes the young girl under her wing, even though she's just been hired by Roy Harwick, the snarky executive of a multi-national oil company, to care for his equally snarky Siamese cat, Charlotte, along with his wife's priceless collection of rare, tropical fish. It's not long before Dixie stumbles upon a dead body in the unlikeliest of places, and soon she's set adrift in a murky and dangerous world in which no one is who they appear to be.
Smart, fast-paced and entertaining, The Cat Sitter's Cradle is a perfect illustration of why
Dixie's loyal fans have come to know and love her and eagerly await the next installment of her adventures.

Dixie and her friend Joyce find an exotic bird, a mother, and a newly delivered baby on a walk in Siesta Key in the first chapter of Clements’ latest. The mother is an illegal immigrant, and the ladies decide to care for her and her new daughter at Joyce’s house. Dixie has her pet-sitting work to fit in while helping the new mother, including feeding the cat and expensive fish in a wealthy new client’s house. The client is supposed to be away, but Dixie finds him dead in his pool and his pregnant daughter missing. Then the new mother and baby disappear along with the exotic bird, and Dixie begins to realize the cases may be connected. Worse still, one of Dixie’s trusted friends may be involved. The unusual premise involving illegal animal exportation works well in the tropical Siesta Key setting. The details about the various pets Dixie takes care of add ambience without detracting from the plot and the human stories. --Amy Alessio

Blaize Clement Can Be Proud
By Js
When one hears that a beloved author has died, it's sad, since it's not only the loss of someone who felt like an old friend, it often means the end of a series and the connection to the amazing worlds they invite us into. I was especially sad when I heard that Blaize Clement had died, since the Dixie Hemingway series has always been one of my top favorites. I was heartened to read that Ms Clement had the opportunity to discuss ongoing story arcs with her son John, and that he was planning to continue the series. But I was worried. Could her son do Dixie justice? I eagerly pre-ordered the Kindle edition of The Cat Sitter's Cradle so I could read it as soon as possible.
I'm happy to report that I'm worried no more. Instead I'm delighted that John has managed to capture the essence of the series and characters very well, and is a good writer in his own right. I loved his use of language (regarding Sophie, a cat: "She met me at the door with some serious tail choreography and an excited thrrrip! to let me know I was late.") I felt like I learned even more about the characters and their environment because of his slightly different-but-similar descriptions. And, as usual, it was over too soon; it's always a good sign when you feel that way.
I definitely felt like the book was as good as any of the previous books in the series.

If you enjoy mysteries with interesting characters and animals, stories that draw you in and make you want to come back time after time, you should read this series. And while it's a richer experience to have read them sequentially, each book is a stand-alone story, and can be read in any order.

This latest book is awesome
By Christa
I completely agree with reviewer Js Banks. Having said that, I want to add that this latest Cat Sitter book is as excellent as the previous books in this series. There is something very comforting in spending time with Dixie, Michael, Paco and the other characters who are introduced. This is very easy paced reading and the plot is easy to follow, bringing everything to a logical conclusion. The reader also continues to learn very interesting animal behavior facts. This is one of my favorite series and I look forward to the next one.

A tightly plotted mystery in a beautiful setting, with cats
By Ingrid King
What more could anyone ask for in a book?
The Cat Sitter mystery series, featuring Dixie Hemingway, a pet sitter who lives on one of the Florida keys, has been a favorite of mine ever since the cover of the first book in the series, Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter (Dixie Hemingway Mysteries, No. 1), caught my eye.
This installment in the series finds Dixie in yet another seemingly impossible situation. Let me warn you right now: do not start this book unless you have a good chunk of uninterrupted time available. I found it really hard to put down, and some chores were left undone until after I finished it.
I love everything about this book: a tightly plotted mystery, interesting characters, and a beautiful setting. I like Dixie more with each book in the series. For me, one of the best parts of reading series mysteries is following the development of the protagonist, and the Clements have done a masterful job with Dixie. And it's rare that a mystery series ends with a cliffhanger involving the protagonist, but this one does. You'll just have to read the book to find out what I'm talking about.
