From School Library Journal
Gr 6 Up—Weeks following the events of The Body in the Woods (Holt, 2014), Alexis, Nick, and Ruby are still finding worth and friendship volunteering for the Portland Search and Rescue Team. They are called in to look for clues when a young woman is found murdered in a vacant lot in Nick's neighborhood. The Portland police are convinced that Nick is the prime suspect. Ruby and Alexis must find a way to hide their friend until they can find the real killer and clear Nick's name. However, the evidence points to either Nick or his brother as the killer. He is longer sure whom he can trust and whether he is prepared to face some very harsh truths. Similar to the previous volume, this work is a character-driven procedural, but this time most of the focus is on Nick and his situation. Alexis and Ruby only getting tertiary attention and development. And unfortunately, Detective Harriman and the Portland Police Department are contrived and one-dimensional, coming off as narrow-minded when they settle immediately and unwaveringly on an easy solution without exploring other possibilities. Once Nick becomes a suspect, the pace picks up considerably, but it is too slow in the previous chapters. Readers more interested in action-packed thrillers may have given up by then. VERDICT Not as strong as the first title, but this selection will satisfy faithful fans, who will anticipate the next installment in the series.—Erik Knapp, Davis Library, Plano, TX

I liked the book from the start
By Karen K. Johnson
If I could do 1/2 stars, this would even be a 4 1/2 star.

My thoughts:
I liked the book from the start; it definitely grabbed my interest. Because it is the 2nd in the series, I liked already knowing the characters too. I thought April was consistent with their personalities and developed them even more in this book. Plus I like each of them.

Some say that it was too obvious right from the start. Some parts were, but for a middle school student, especially one who isn't an expert at predicting, I thought the number of clues (and false clues to lead a reader astray) were just about right.

I appreciated the faithfulness of the friends and the theme of how important friendship really IS. The depiction of school reactions to Nick were well portrayed as well.

Mostly I just liked that it was a good read that kept me turning pages. I had work to do yesterday so I'd set my timer - work for an hour and then treat myself to more of the book, and so on. It's not often I want to continue a book to that extent (and I read a LOT).

The only flaw I saw (and it's minor) is that a few times I thought the dialog was a bit cliche. Most of the time I didn't notice dialog, which is an indication to me of good writing. As I thought about it, though, teens often don't recognize cliches. They need to experience them to begin to recognize them.

I will definitely have this in my 8th-grade classroom library, where April Henry books are consistently among the most popular.

I LOVED that book so I knew I had to own ...

So I saw this book at my son's book fair. What called to me first was the cover and when I saw the author's name I was thinking no way that is the same author I read another book by not too long ago. So I went to Goodreads and searched up and what do you know this is book two in Point Last Seen series!! I LOVED that book so I knew I had to own this one and I am so glad I did. I really enjoyed how amazing this book was for me. Yes this is probably geared towards the teens but I love seeing how SAR works and does its job. Being a grown adult I want to go and volunteer myself. Another thing I enjoy with this book is the fact that the chapters are short so if I had to put it down I wasn't in the middle of a chapter.
With Blood Will Tell I literally read it within a day I was DEVOURING the story and the characters. We start off with a missing girl and that is where I thought our story would take place no it doesn't. Not too far where Nick lives one of the teens that is part of the SAR's program a girl is murdered. We see how Nick handles being a suspect when he knows for certain he didn't do it. He will also get answers to something in his past. This was a shocker for me. With the help of Alexis and Ruby they are determined to help Nick clear his name but if it isn't Nick who can it be? Because we all know DNA doesn't lie.....
As far as character's go I liked all of them and especially how well informed Ruby is on the police matters. Alexis has a big heart and with her taking care of her mother and trying to build her own self up is amazing. Nick I am not too sure on him I really like him but goodness boy quite getting so sick lol.
I think this is going to be a great series and I am excited to see where it goes and how far.
